This week I'm at Ox Hill Fair in western Pa. I made the 3 1/2 hour drive in my Dad's truck with my roommate in the passenger seat. My grandparents (Denny and Pearl) started this concession business over 40 years ago, and my father had his own summer fair route for 21 years. I've been a 'carnie' since I was a baby and started working in the stand when I was 9.
I recently downloaded instagram and immediately I was hooked, asking everyone if they had it to follow me! (audra_cheyenne, follow me :) At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the social networking application because many of my friends called it out as not 'real' photography. And after I used instagram, I can say I definitely get more satisfaction out of developing my own film and spending hours in the darkroom to get that one print that finally works. Instagram, is just simple fun.

I have not tried Instagram, but may have to see how it is on my iPod Touch. It seems like one of those niche social medias like twitter or Tumblr. One thing that I do know about it is that it is viewed as the hipster's outlet to post what they are having for supper! :P
ReplyDeleteIn all seriousness, Ii seems like an interesting idea to center a media around pictures, especially when most modern mobile devices come with cameras!
It really does remind me of Tumblr, except it's limited to pictures only. Although, there is a place for captions underneath the pictures.
ReplyDeleteI try not to post the pictures I take onto Instagram immediately, because do I really want everyone to know where I am at that exact moment? Not exactly haha. I like to wait until the end of the day or when I get a moment of spare time to mess around with the different filters. I also downloaded this app Camera Awesome, so I can edit more aspects before I upload the picture to Instagram.
If I find myself photographing my lunch, I may have to take a break from Instagram haha. You should definitely try it out!
I feel like Instagram is sort of a mashup of Tumblr and Twitter. It's a great idea, and I think it's going to gain far more popularity than Twitter soon. People do go overboard with it though. But, where else can they show everyone what they're eating and how nice the clouds look every single day?
